Carolina Poet, Photo's and Notes
Welcome
Welcome to my blog...as a beginner i am enjoying what all i can do, explore, create, and share.....born and raised and based in the greatest state... North Carolina..I love we have it all... the mountains, the piedmont, the sand hills and the coast. I love we have the four seasons...and I try and enjoy each with gusto...
One of my favorite carolina times is I love to ride my bike ...love the morning ride and talking about what it means...and have been doing so so so early... mostly leaving by 6 :30 am...most morning....otherwise..I do love sharing my photo's...enjoy!!!
Another one of my most favorite carolina times is I also love to travel...well actually exploring this great state.... mostly spur of the moment and trying out new experiences such as foods, wines, friendships, cultures, music, whether I'm in new cities, towns, villages, remote areas, or major cities, small towns ...I call them "drive arounds"....
In my 52 years have also traveled the USA and visited or vacationed in 39 of the states including Alaska and Hawaii. In 2000 I marked the millinium for the kids by buying a RV and traveling for 35 days 19 states and 8900 miles. We started in Wilmington NC and went east to St. Louis and then followed the Lewis and Clark trail and then north to Puguet Sound down the west coast all the way to Barstow CA and then back to NC via Grand Canyon and all point inbetween...
I have traveled to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the UK, Scotland, Ireland, England, Holland, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, and still planning...
I also love to just take notes as i call them .... thus these written blogs...mostly to pass on to my kids at some point...my life stories and my lessons as well as thoughts, poems, and just plain notes...

my dad the dutchman
My dad-the dutchman
he was born in the netherlands and grew up in a difficult time, born in 1926
this is gabriel-my dad- and his mom....
they lived in applesca hollland in the countryside of groeningen on a farm
they raised tulips and made cheese...had goats and cows...
he loved to follow his father around who was a wanderer and rode his motorcycle everywhere...
this is my dad on his father's motorcycle
as he grew up his brother's and sisters became his responsibility
as his father began to travel more and more and his mom starting teaching
he became the son of the house and of the fields...
this is my dad with his brothers and sister on the farm
my dad grew up and went to work on local farms and in dehague on barges
during the war my dad hid USA glider pilots on the farm..
the farm was large and easy to hide people on it...
this is my granddad- marecole- at the farm with his car
my dad grew up around animals
loved to play with them and made many his pets...
this is my dad and his dad-my grandfather-and Ima- my mom
my dad grew up and married my mom-Ima- and they had a son -lucas hendrik christaan and they traveled to the USA
This is their plane ride to the usa and into nyc
They went to live in beech community in western north carolina
the holler was reems creek outside the town of weaverville off of locust cove rd
this is lucas at our first home in nc...on locust cove rd 2 rooms
we grew to a family of 5 and never seemd unhappy
we had a richness in our childhood
filled with laughter, play and lot's of adventures
we had great neighbors and played with our pets
this is me and my older sister in the parker's back yard looking at the blue ridge parkway
my dad loved to get away and see the sights
we traveled in a ford fairlane station wagon
this is a family picnic at lake james in 1963
i was heading to feed the ducks...

...talking out-loud
talking out-loud...
I am so happy when it happens
only you get to choose the topics
not in the dark yet not in the brightness either
you can be heard clearly only when
...talking out-loud
sharing with friends means something more
calling out the names of all you care about
sharing with a loved one
in a special state of mind
....talking out-loud
changes volume frequently
can be playful
daughters want it with love
co-workers know it well and miss it the most
dad's do it with stories
history seldom repeats itself
can make someone cry or laugh
....talking out-loud
you should never get shut down
only stop when your ready
mom's do it with their hands
Brothers do it with a wink
can make someone smile
can make no sense
sisters do it in a whisper
but most of all...
talking out-loud.... makes you whole
so never stop

I am a nc wanderer
I am a nc wanderer
always looking for someplace new
always looking for someplace new
loving my truck as it's got 220K miles on it
I turn up the music loud
....on the road again....
just now rolling down hwy 49 from charlotte
can't you just see
drifting around the bend
wandering with a bike on back
and a canoe on top
revving up the motor as I glide by those fences
up and down those rolling hills
where's that elusive hwy 12
OBX sand and 4X4 driving
looking a those awesome scenes
....on the road again....
running that Interstate I-40/85 late nights
changing the song on the radio
looking at those small town sights
in between all those country roads
....on the road again....
slowing down to please the policeman
looking for some post office blues
honking in that big city traffic
highrise buildings and oneway streets
malls and big ass parking lot's
left turns before right turns
stops signs and stop lights
rainy days and afternoons
....on the road again...
gas on back up & wash those windows
Crossing old railroad tracks
taking the fork in the road to nowhere
On the road again...
I'm a nc wanderer
